HDPE WELDING AND INSTALLATION
ECK Civil Engineering won the contract for the welding, installation and testing of over 5km of 500mm and 450mm HDPE pipework. The HDPE Pipework was being used to transport brine water through Cheshire.
Using the McElroy Vault app, every weld was uploaded to a live server with all weld data, weld parameters, photographs, and location of the weld for QA reports. All lines were pressure tested via a type 2 test, the crude brine and the weak brine pipes were tested to 15bar and the pumped weak brine was tested to 24bar. After testing, the HDPE pipework was connected to new steel pipework ready for commissioning.
PIPE DIVERSION
ECK were appointed to divert external gas and water mains to allow for construction of new hospital building. Works included running a new 180mm barrier pipe diversion main for the water supply which was pressure tested and chlorinated prior to a live connection.
The works on the gas involved running a new 125mm diversion gas main, which was connected while the gas pipework remained live to ensure hospital operations was not effected.
LARGE DIAMETER OUTFALL HDPE
ECK Civil Engineering were instructed to weld 250m of 710mm HDPE pipe with electrofusion collars alongside 250m of 355mm pipe for pumping mains for a new waste management plant. Here we used high powered generators with electrofusion boxes due to the size of the pipe.
The electrofusion boxes were blue box enabled for better data collection of joint records for the client. Following the completion of the welding, we then pressure tested the pipes before a new tarmac road was constructed above.
THE LARGEST GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMP OF ANY SCHOOL IN THE UK
ECK Civil Engineering worked as the main subcontractor, to deliver both groundworks and HDPE pipework elements of a large ground source heat project, to convert the majority of St Alexandra and Albert School heating system from its existing ageing oil boiler systems to a new heat pump systems. The site is within 260 acres of Capability Brown landscape, with Grade II Gatton Hall at its centre. It is said to be the largest ground source heat pump project in a school in the UK.
Overall, ECK installed over 25000m of HDPE Pipework, ranging from 160mm flow and return pipework, to 40mm borehole and collector loops, several of which were excavated and installed working alongside the onsite archaeologist, to ensure the history of the site was preserved.
In 2022, ECK secured the water and gas services package for Shepperton Studios’ redevelopment, covering three stages and offices. Our work included a new 250mm MDPE gas ring main with 90mm and 125mm supplies to each building. We installed three ring mains with barrier pipes, meeting client specs.
We introduced a 110mm booster cold water ring main, a 110mm CAT5 ring main (32mm to 90mm), and a 225mm hydrant ring main with type 2 hydrants. Our installation included a 6” water supply from the boundary to a utility building serving site-wide needs for cold water and CAT5 systems.
ECK collaborated closely with the client, ensuring a safe, defect-free installation. Kudos to all teams for an excellent job!
